The Games Story
It’s March 15th 2010 and I’m driving my car listening to a BBC WM Radio bulletin about this new idea of Community Games happening before the London 2012 Olympics and I thought I’m building one!
Little did I know then just how fantastic a journey it would and continues to be.
Free to attend, we have now connected thousands of people over the years with activity providers, inspiring plenty of health and happiness along the way.
A core voluntary team, with community values at heart, underpins this and makes it happen.
Knowing and working with them is a wonderful experience, with oodles of love, support and care given because we all believe it matters.
Activity does matter, through the pleasure it brings to people using their own energy, making friends, winning and losing, challenging themselves or being part of a team.
I am proud to say we have grown to support other areas too, Central Birmingham, Kings Norton, Lichfield, Tamworth and Accessible Games for people with physical and learning disabilities in Sutton Coldfield and Walsall.
If 2020 had not been such an unusual year we would have added Games in Walsall, Sandwell and one for Oncology and Haematology Department patients too, at the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
As I write this I don’t know how 2020 will fully play out but I can say that the Community Games are here to stay, to grow and to thrive.
We all very much hope to see you soon and until then, we hope that you enjoy the challenges and information here on the website.
